About Us

Kickstart Motorbike project aims to help young people progress, wherever they may start from. We aim at developing and enhancing the young peoples lives by providing them training and hands on experiance in an area that is to their great interest.

The Project increases there inner confidence whilst helping them to gain/improve their team working skills and achieve their own personal goals. The project teaches the young people both basic and advanced motorbike maintanance skills and the responsibilities of owning a motorbike, as well as the law around owning and riding one making sure they understand the importance of insurance and tax.

The workshop is located at sidcup youth centre off of Burnt Oak Lane where we have all the specialised tools required and qualified staff. The saturday course we run is free whilst the monday and wednesday night projects charge only a pound. This money is used by the project to buy necessities needed to keep the workshop and bikes running.

If you have any queries about any of the courses do not hesitate to contact us, our contact details can be found on the contact us page.

There are currently three community projects running:

- Monday night project (youthbike 2014)

- Wednesday night project (Advanced Mechanic skills)

- Saturday Project (Beginners Course)

The saturday Project is a 10 week course for the beginners. The sessions are four hours long and are split into two parts, one to two hours are spent learning the theory and this is then backed up with a two hour session in the workshop putting the new skills to the test. If you have issues with writing this is not a problem as the staff are more than willing to write for you! The theory sessions are made as exiting as possible with games and competitions between the group, it's not just sitting and writing. Each saturday group will have two rides to a local track twice a term costing only £10, both the bikes and safety gear is provided. Once you have completed the saturday course you will be invited to the wednesday night project.

Wednesday Night Project is the next step up from the 10 weeks beginners course on saturday. The young peoples skills are further improved and are taught how to carry out the more in depth maintanace e.g. rebuilding the engine. Like the saturday group there a two rides a school term which cost £10 and all the bikes and safety gear is provided, if you are lucky enough to own your own bike and safety gear you are more than welcome to bring them check with John Seal first though.

The monday night project is where the young people work as a team to make a one off project either a bike or trike and can be either electric or petrol propultion. The finished project is then entered into the national youthbike competitions in Lincoln during the summer. The Young people then go on a residential with the youth workers showing off their project to the judges and competing against other teams across the UK and usually bring a suitcase of trophies home! This project is through selection only, those who have had an outstanding attitude towards both the theory and hands on side will in no doubt be selected.

There is also a new addition to our projects available to young people. This is the Remote Control car club. We have a fleet of cars which consist of both Nitro and Electric powered and a newly built track that will be used for skills building and competitions. The young people are also taught how to maintain and fix the cars as they are regularly crashed! We have an expert tutor who will teach those interested the skills needed to professionally control and race the cars round a purpose built circuit. In addition to this the young people are also expected to help maintain the track at the beginning of the day to keep it in peak condition. This project runs on a saturday meaning we share the facilities with the motorbike project.
